MY VICE

From a very young age fishing was my vice of choice. Growing up in Berryville, VA, I spent much of my time on the Shenandoah River bass fishing during the day and catfishing at night. Then came my introduction to surf fishing and the real addiction started. My modest collection of six rods quickly grew to 25. 

Fast forward to the day my wife and I decided to plan a diving trip to Belize. I had always wanted to try my hand at fly fishing, and given my love for saltwater fishing, Belize seemed like a good place to start. I went to my local Orvis, bought my first rod and took casting lessons. When we got to Belize I connected with a local guide and then it happened, I hooked into my first Bonefish. This is the moment, according to my wife and three kids, my addiction turned into a “problem.” I would give you an update on the number of rods I own, but I’m too scared to count.  

One day I took the Fly-Tying 101 class at Orvis and  before I knew it, I developed another “problem.” One day my wife came downstairs and said “Why does it look like we moved into an Orvis? You should turn this into a business.” And that’s when VICE Fishing Co. was born. The best part of owning my own fishing company is that my “problem” is no longer a problem, it’s “research and development.”
